Thing #1 – Reflections on Lifelong Learning

Posted by: lbyrd108 | May 28, 2008 | 4 Comments |

In reflecting on the 7 1/2 Habits of Effective Lifelong Learners, the most challenging habit for me will be Habit 5, creating your own learning toolbox.   As a learner who enjoys technology and locating new tools that may be used with my students, I tend to overload on Habit 7 1/2, Play.   Many resources are found that can be used in the classroom and I tend to email the links to my colleagues and myself  if I am searching at home.   Many times when my colleagues or I need to use the resources again, I have to find the email that was sent to locate the link.  Another format I use is to load links that relate to classroom use on the resources page of my class website.  However, there are some links that may only be needed for my use and the class website may not be the most appropriate place for the links.   Therefore, my goal in this course would be to create an organized technology learner toolbox so that I may effectively use the information to teach my students and to assist my colleagues.

The habits that will be easiest for me as a lifelong learner would be Habit 7 1/2, play, and Habit 3, view problems as challenges.   Because of my curiosity with technology, I enjoy exploring and experiementing with technology tools that will enhance my teaching strategies and engage my learners.  Through this process, there have been many times when problems have arisen.  Both the students and I enjoy the challenge of solving the problems that arise.

The most important habit for me as I work through this course will be Habit 1, begin with the end in mind.  My love for technology often causes me to be distracted from my original goal.  I am also excited about how this class will assist me in becoming more effective in using the technology tools that are available.

Hi, Linda!
I enjoyed reading your responses. I can’t remember a summer in my 30 years of teaching that I actually enjoyed working! Ha! If technology gets us this excited, think what we can do with our students!

We’re living in a fun age!
Have a productive but restful summer,
Barbara

Hello Barbara,

Thank you for commenting on my reflections of our summer course. It is exciting to explore technology resources that we can use with our students. Can you believe we’re already planning for next year during our summer break? It’s fun though!

Enjoy your summer break,
Linda

Yep, we’re confirmed sum, sum, summertime workers! We need to get together to share strengths, Linda. I can show shortcuts for loading a toolbox, and you can teach me more about playtime. ;-)

Linda,
I am so glad you are in this class! You have such a pure joy of using technology with your students and sharing that knowledge with your peers. I think Habit 5 is the hardest one for me as well. Why is it that educators tend to not be good at the documentation aspect? I look forward to reading your other thoughts.

Julia
